Here is all you need for this camp or campfire treat:

  • Pie Iron: Unless it’s just the two of you, one pie iron is never enough. You should have at least two, and a double pie iron speeds things up.
  • 2 slices of bread per camper
  • Butter/Margarine
  • Peanut Butter
  • Marshmallows *Mini ones work best
  • Herseys Chocolate candy bars or Chocolate morsels

Tip: A good pair of campfire gloves is almost a must-have for any type of campfire cooking. Here is a guide to some good choices for campfire cooking gloves.

The basic steps:

  1. Heavily butter one side of each piece of bread – this side lays against the pie iron

  2. Generously spread peanut butter on both open-face sides of the bread

  3. Place the chocolate bar, (or a handful of morsels), on top of the bottom piece of bread.

  4. Top the chocolate bar with marshmallows
    • *Tip – add some crumbled graham crackers to make it a pie iron S’mores

  5. Close pie iron and trim any exposed bread crust

  6. Toast over low flames or hot coals 3 to 5 minutes each side.

  7. CAUTION! Pie irons will be very hot. AND, the insides of the just-cooked sandwich will be very hot! Do not let young kids try to handle them until they have time to cool – which should only be a few minutes.

Note: Buttering the bread works best but olive oil or pan sprays can also be used.
